Foods to Avoid with a Cold Sore.
The common cold sore that afflicts a lot of people in winter is actually a viral
infection.
The herpes simplex virus HPV-1 is responsible for the ugly and painful pus
filled blisters and red marks around your lips mouth and nose. For the virus to
cause this oral herpes, it needs some optimum conditions to multiply.
Apart from the affected areas usually being, moist and warm mucous areas, the
antibodies that fight it must be depleted in our body.
Research has shown that the virus thrives if there are unusually high
concentrations of arginine available in the body. This amino acid based substance
can be controlled by the type of food you consume.
Another substance which will reduce the arginine concentration is lycine.
So if we can combine a diet low in arginine with one high in lycine, this
would make things a little more difficult for the virus and maybe save us from
contracting cold sores.
So lets go through a list of foods that are likely to increase the arginine
level in your body and you should avoid or at least try and reduce.
Surprisingly enough, some normally considered healthy type food is amongst
that to be avoided, namely nuts and seeds. So avoid the following:
Foods to avoid with a cold sore 1:Nuts, peanuts, almonds and
all nuts for that matter.
Foods to avoid with a cold sore 2: Chocolate and refined sugar
products, such as candy and cookies.
Foods to avoid with a cold sore 3: Acidic or acid forming
foods, such as orange juice and some other fruit juices.
If you can substitute the above with foods having more lycine, such as yogurt
and lycine pills, you would go a long way to reducing your affinity for cold
sores.
A healthy lifestyle, with a balanced diet, and contained or low stress levels
would also contribute greatly.
If you can keep your body in peak condition, it will have more antibodies to fight
any attack on it and you would not have to be so careful with the foods to avoid
with a cold sore.
