If you have ever experienced the discomfort of Cold Sores, you will understand that wanting to get rid of them as
quickly as possible will be high on your agenda.
But what do you do if you don't have the time or inclination to go and see a doctor?
Cold Sore home remedies, are fortunately in abundance. Having researched this topic in depth, there do in fact
seem to be a number of these cures available. People have tried nearly everything that they could lay
their hands on, with some startling results.
Nearly all the remedies are based on the basic premise of drying , cooling and soothing the blisters formed by
a cold sore. This makes sense, as these are contraindications to the virus that causes Cold Sores to
propagate.
Here are some home remedies for cold sores:
Wash with ordinary soap and water first -stops re infection.
Apply a drying agent, this can either be through an evaporating liquid such as peroxide, surgical alcohol, nail
polish remover etc. This is done for 5 to 10 minutes, with the aid of a q-tip or mini swab. Yes, you will
probably experience some burning and unpleasantness, but cold sores aren't exactly a walk in the park either.
When this is done, applying an ice pack seems to work for most people. Rubbing ice cubes on it for as long as
it takes to completely cool the area down, to the point of pain. The coldness is not very well liked by the virus
and stops it growing.
Remember to dry the area again after this, using the nail polish or alcohol technique.
When you have done a few cycles of this, it should have reduced the swelling, and he unpleasant
feeling.
Now apply a warm chamomile tea bag for about 5 minutes. Applying something like a mint julep mask now is also
recommended by some users. This contains peppermint oil, which has antiviral properties.
Repeat another session with the drying agent, on top of the mask.
Apply a paste using a menthol toothpaste for about an hour. The toothpaste contains triclosan and
menthol, known for its soothing effects. Leave on for about an hour. With a little luck, the blisters should have
reduced in size by now
Apply some tea tree oil, or rub some yogurt over the area and see what results you get.
All of the above has worked very effectively for some people, so give those home remedies for cold sores a
try.
Remember that all healing, takes time, and all we can hope to achieve by using these home remedies for cold
sores is to shorten the healing time, and reducing the symptoms of the totally unpleasant cold sores and fever
blisters.
